Does Social Media Work?

Does Social Media work?

The short answer is Yes.

However, there is a longer answer….

We live in a society of instant gratification. When we want something, we expect to get it straight away.  We decide to sell our old couch, we put it on Marketplace, and within minutes we have a buyer.

The reality is that business does not work exactly like that.

When you sell an item on Marketplace or any other ‘sales platform’, people on the platform are already looking for what you are selling.

When you post onto your Facebook page or Facebook groups, your audience may not be in the market for your product at the time that they see your post.

The idea is to be consistent so that you are top of mind when your audience is in the market for your product.

People buy from people they trust, and seeing your brand on a regular basis ensures that it becomes familiar and, in that way, trustworthy. People are far more likely to support a brand that they are familiar with. This is called brand exposure, causing brand awareness.

At Blurb Media SA we have experienced this first-hand. I joined Blurb Media SA around six months ago. Although the company had been running for about a year and a half at that stage, they were a little bit like a teacher’s child, and had been neglecting their own marketing. One of the things I implemented was regular posts for Blurb Media SA.

We were getting interest slowly to start off with and it has been growing gradually. This month, six months in, we are suddenly inundated with interest and requests.

We see the same results with our clients too. The more we post on their behalf, the more interest they receive. Unfortunately, so many people are looking for quick fixes and expect immediate results from Social Media Marketing, but it is a marathon and not a race.

So yes, Social Media Marketing does work, with consistency and time.

Give us a call and we can chat about what strategy will work best for your company and brand.

Read all about it!!!

Everyone loves a good story…so here is ours! Whether or not it’s a good one – you can decide 😉

We are two women who have a passion for small to medium size businesses, we believe that every business owner deserves the opportunity to promote their brand through affordable yet professional online marketing. Ozanne Mac Adam previously worked for a large company where she spent most of her days interacting with business owners. Oz soon realised that the successful small businesses were all investing in Social Media Marketing and those who were not, were struggling to stay afloat in the ever-evolving digital marketing space. That is when Blurb Media SA was born. This was almost two years ago. Blurb’s mission in the digital marketing world has always been, and will continue to be a mission of affordability, professionalism and innovation. Above and beyond this, Blurb strives to bring a personal touch to a very impersonal space. The truth is, people’s lives have become revolved around Social Media which can often leave us feeling lonely and disconnected from other people. Now, more than ever, people are craving human connection. When Blurb Media manages a business page, our goal is to create a “personal experience” for your audience. Our content is geared at allowing your potential customers the opportunity to get to know you and your business on a more personal level. Unlike traditional marketing which has always taken a “hard sell” approach.  People buy from people they trust. Social Media has successfully provided a platform where business owners are able to give people an inside look at what they do and who they are. You are now finally able to introduce your staff, share stories, post interesting videos etc to a platform where customers can directly interact with you. This is pure magic, provided it is done professionally and consistently!

Karin Botha has always been known a “match-maker” connecting products and people. Oz enjoys coming up with creative ways to show-case people and their talents. Together we have a passion for business! Our combined strengths, ambition and pure love for what we do brings us closer to our end goal which is to ensure that every small/medium business owner around JHB becomes a part of our Blurb Media SA family. We work hard, we play harder but most of all – we love unconditionally! We are the type of women who will listen to you when you are feeling despondent and then encourage you with new, innovative ideas. We are the kind of women who will pop open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate in your success! Above all else, we will always promote you in every way possible – even if we are away from our computers, we will be telling your business story to friends at a braai on a Saturday afternoon! Our passion never fades, rests or takes a holiday! We are consistently telling people about our Blurb Media Family members by sharing, promoting and connecting people.

Blurb Media SA is a passion driven digital marketing agency run by two incredibly dynamic women who aim to make online marketing affordable yet professional on every level!

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
